Nursemaid elbow

Ever heard of it? I was aware of it since my little bro had it occur to him several times as a boy. It's a condition that occurs in preschool age kids when they are pulled by their arms or have some sort of jerking type motion to their arms. What happens is that the ligament running through the elbow pops out of place, causing major pain to the kid. Well, saturday night, I was wrestling with Kelsy and JJ when I started to swing Kelsy by an arm and a leg. Right as I was releasing my grasp and letting her go, I felt the pop in her arm. She immediately started crying and telling us her arm hurt. Unfortunately, the only fix is to get the ligament to pop back. Not knowing how to do that and not wanting to spend several hours in an ER, I turned to the internet and guess where I found instruction on how to fix Kelsy's elbow? YOUTUBE!!! No kidding, a video about 1 minute long of a mother demonstrating the technique...and it worked!! A little more screaming from Kelsy (the procedure is of course painful) and she was fixed right up...isn't the internet great?!

Yikes! I'm always afraid of Chris pulling kids up by the arms because I have images of little Eddie screaming in my head.

I wish I'd thought of YouTube when it happened to Kat.... but, then again, I was worried that there was something wrong with her wrist. ahwell

I'm so glad yall won't be paying for the ER visit forever (as we are!)!!!!

Glad she's feeling better and glad you knew what to do. I had to do the e.r. thing the first time with Lily, but now we know what to do when her left elbow pops out. They go from instant happy to instant screaming pain. Hopefully you won't have to do that again. It happens so easy after the first time though....

Holy cow! I wouldn't have thought of looking on the internet. I am a little slow at thinking though. Anyway good job. If it ever happens to anyone we know I will send them your way! You will be the "trained" nursemaid elbow fixer. Ha ha. Debi
