The Hole

JJ being adventurous in "the hole".

I quit doing side jobs this semester so I could concentrate on my Paramedic classes. I expected to pick back up again around May/June 2009 time frame after taking my National Registry exam. Well, as is often the case, great plans don't always pan out...my in-laws had a minor catastrophe in their home which has me doing a pretty extensive remodel right now. One day while visiting the Allens, Denver says to me, "Josh, I need you to take a look at RW's toilet. I think it's broke."

Well, I still have to fix the toilet...it currently has none...but I found the problem. Apparently the toilet seal has been leaking for quite some time and the sub-floor and floor joists under the toilet were completely rotted! This job started as fixing the toilet in one bathroom and has grown to replacing floor joists, sub-floor, a partition wall, and sistering a bearing wall...kind of a lot of work. Did I mention that it began as a problem with one toilet and is now a remodel in TWO bathrooms!

So much for having plenty of study time! Not that I'm complaining, I really don't care for school. I would much rather be doing this kind of thing, anyway. Since Caroline's family lives about 30 minutes away, we usually go over there as a family. I always have plenty of extra hands to "help". The kids have named the crawl space "the hole" and every day we go over there, they both ask if they can help in the hole.

You're schedule was clear so you COULD help your family! :) I'm so glad you could do it... and I'm sure the family time is good for all involved, too. ^_^
